The 1996 Legislature has enacted and the Governor has signed into law Act No. 96-795 relating to medical gas piping in Alabama. This Act provides for all persons performing medical gas piping to meet the certification requirements of the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board.

The Act requires that any master or journeyman plumber or gas fitter performing medical gas piping to provide proof to the Board that he or she has completed a current medical gas piping certification program approved by the Board. The Board has approved the certification program of the National ITC Corporation (NITC).

Upon presentation of a current NITC medical gas certificate, a medical gas endorsement card will be issued. Only those persons holding master or journeyman plumber or gas fitter certification are eligible for medical gas fitter endorsement.

Persons meeting the above criteria and performing or desiring to perform medical gas piping should contact NITC for information on their certification program.
